It is our passion to ensure that all children take part and enjoy PE so that they become physically confident and develop a love of sport for life.
In KS1 our pupils are taught the key fundamental movement skills of agility, balance and coordination through challenges of varying levels and mini-games. As the children progress through the school these learnt skills will be applied more directly to traditional sports and games. Through PE, pupils become aware of the importance of physical activity as well as how to lead a healthy and active life. Each lesson has both a physical objective and an additional objective focusing on social, personal or cognitive skills.
PE Kit Policy
All children must bring in a full PE kit which should not be worn to school.
The kit consists of:
- shorts/tracksuit bottoms/leggings
- a t-shirt and sweatshirt/jumper
- appropriate footwear (trainers or plimsolls)
If the children do not have appropriate footwear they will not be able to take part in the lesson. Boots of any kind are not considered appropriate footwear. If your child has PE on Friday mornings they may come in to school wearing their kit, but they must have a set of clothes to change into once PE has finished.
If your child forgets their kit, the first and second time they will be allowed to take part in PE wearing a kit provided by the school. The school has two spare kits per year group, which will be handed out on a first come first served basis. If your child forgets their kit for a third time we will call their parents/guardian and the child will not be allowed to take part in the lesson. They will instead complete a PE worksheet based on the learning taking place.
If your child cannot take part in PE for any reason a letter or note must be provided. Except for cases of a serious injury or illness all children are expected to take part. It is our expectation that if your child is well enough to come to school they are well enough to take part in PE. Thank you very much for your support with this.
Year 5/6 Football team at Lyndhurst
We have an amazing Year 5/6 school football team, who trains weekly and plays regularly (weather permitting). Team matches are normally held on Saturday mornings at either Rosendale Playing Fields, or Dulwich Sports Ground.
Mr Hammill offers advice and encouragement from the sidelines, which boosts the team enormously. Why not join him and the other supporters next time there’s a match? It’s a good idea to wrap up warm, it can get a bit chilly.
Other sporting opportunities
Lyndhurst’s sporting reputation isn’t just football focused. Our KS2 children take part in Swimming Lessons at Camberwell Leisure Centre. We also have a number of sports-related clubs during and after school hours. Visit our School clubs page for more details.
