26 Nov Ganges & Volga Outdoor Learning
Ganges (year 3) and Volga (year 5) teamed up and went to Lettssom Gardens last week as part of an outdoor learning experience. We used mixed age groups to help develop a strong teamwork ethic. We were learning how squirrels prepared for hibernation by hiding/burying some seeds, we then went on to put our engineering skills to the test by building a den. The kids received little to no support for this task and were asked to complete it independently. The criteria was to be able to fit at least one team member in the den and protect them from all elements of the weather. It was a great insight for Ganges to see how Stone Age man might have survived. Before we turned to come back to school we went back into squirrel mode to find our nuts, a task that helped us develop a great appreciation of the difficulties and capabilities of our furry friends.
