Sir Tim Brighouse visited Lyndhurst to officially cut the ribbon and open the new school gate. Two children from Grove FM’s Radio Club interviewed Sir Tim about his experiences and what makes a good school. Listen below to find out more.

The interview

And here is a quote by musician Pablo Casals, which Sir Tim referenced in his opening speech:

Sometimes I look around me with a feeling of complete dismay. In the confusion that afflicts the world today, I see disrespect for the very values of life.

Beauty is all around us, but how many seem to see nothing. Each second we live is a new and unique moment of the universe; a moment that will never be again.

And what do we teach our children? We teach them that 2+2 makes 4, and that Paris is the capital of France. When will we also teach them what they are?

You must cherish one another. You must work – we must all work – We should say to each of them: do you know what you are?

You are a marvel. You are unique. In the entire world there is no other child exactly like you. In the millions of years that have passed, there has never been another child like you.

And look at your body – what a wonder it is. Your legs, your arms, your cunning fingers, and the way you move.

You may become a Shakespeare, a Michelangelo, a Beethoven. And when you grow up, can you then harm another who is, like you, a marvel?

Let us make the world worthy of its children.

                                                                             (Pablo Casals)
