13 Jun Refugee week starting today
This week we are celebrating Refugee Week at Lyndhurst, ahead of World Refugee Day on June 20th. The theme this year is “Healing”. We will be thinking about how we can help refugee children and families to feel safe in our school community, and how we can build connections and empathy together.
We will be making a display of Welcome banners and want to reflect our school’s linguistic diversity as accurately as we can. If you can contribute a language, please encourage and help your child to write “Welcome to our school” or “Welcome to Lyndhurst” on A4 paper, bring it in and add it to a banner. The brighter the better!
Next week, some of the children will “take a walk in someone else’s shoes” – the English idiom for trying to connect to someone else’s experience. You might enjoy trying this as a family! We would love to see pictures – please send them to the office or Mrs Baldwin (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Finally, this leaflet may be useful when talking to your children about war and conflict:
