History

Curriculum intent

Our history curriculum aims to give our pupils not only the knowledge but the skills to question the world in which they are growing up. Throughout the curriculum, pupils gain a coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world.

Throughout their history lessons, pupils will be equipped to ask perceptive questions, think critically, weigh evidence, use subject specific vocabulary, sift arguments and develop perspective and judgement. We want pupils to understand the complexity of people’s lives, the process of change, the diversity of societies and relationships between different groups, as well as their own identity and the challenges of their time. We want them to gain the skills that will enable them to continue to develop as free thinkers.

We aim to deliver the curriculum in a hands-on way engaging way, making use of experience days, trips, artefact handling and making the most of our diverse local heritage sites.

What we OFFER

OUR PUPILS

History at Lyndhurst is taught explicitly so that pupils develop an understanding of the development of civilisations across the world. Where possible we explore the history of our local area so that we can better use primary sources and see the real legacy.

HOW YOU CAN

HELP AT HOME

We really want pupils to have a strong understanding of chronology so any access to timelines of world or British history will support their conceptual understanding. Understanding why events happened and discussing similarities and differences with other historical events is also really helpful.
