Religious Education (RE)
Curriculum intent
At Lyndhurst we use the six main world faiths to teach pupils how to discuss and debate. Sessions focus on how we, as individuals, might contribute to our own communities and the wider world thus promoting social-awareness and understanding of others. Lessons are sequenced so that pupil’s knowledge of each religion builds over time including the expansion of their subject specific vocabulary. Religious Education lessons at Lyndhurst all:
- Encourage children to ask and reflect on challenging questions about religions, respectfully and openly.
- Promote a sense of appreciation and respect for the different cultures in today’s society including their own community.
- Provide opportunities for personal reflection where children can explore their own beliefs (not necessarily religious) and how they can contribute to their own local communities.
- Develop pupils’ knowledge and understanding of different religions and consider how the beliefs of others influences their lives and the lives of others.
- Allow children to be individually reflective of their own beliefs and ideas, strengthening children’s ability to learn and articulate their learning at a deeper level.
- Encourage creativity, imagination, enquiry, debate, discussion and independence in order to develop their love of learning, and understanding of the world they live in.
What we OFFER
OUR PUPILS
Pupils have access to explicit lessons exploring world religions. We have regular Religious Rotation Days which allow us to supplement our curriculum with more opportunities to explore celebrations that happen at certain points of the calendar year.
HOW YOU CAN
HELP AT HOME
Living in such a multicultural location we are fortunate that we are exposed to different faiths all of the time. Allow and support your child to be curious about different faiths and their traditions and celebrations. The most important message you can provide your child is that we all have different beliefs and we must respect eachothers view points and talk about other people's faith with respect.
