The Scoop Week 19th March 2024

Hello Lyndhurst Family,

It’s been a busy few weeks at school, with so many big events taking place. Whilst we try hard to limit the number of themed days we get involved in, the Spring term does seem to be fuller than others! Last week, we took part in Comic Relief—the donations are still being counted but a huge thank you to everyone who took part.

We can’t wait to welcome you to school this week for parents evening meetings, hopefully you will see our lovely pieces of framed art and our new plants (all made possible with thefunds from Friends of Lyndhurst).

Here are this week’s notices:

Summer Term Menu:

After Easter our menu will be changing slightly, we will be moving to two meet free days per week (Mon and Wed) and will move to three days where the pudding is just fruit. We have been working with Olive Dinning to ensure that more of the options are made from whole ingredients and fewer include ultra-processed items. Over the last term we have introduced the rule that any child can ask for a larger portion whilst at the servery, we have increased the number of vegetarian portions made, we have introduced allergy lanyards and we have purchased additional cutlery, crockery and new serving stations to help streamline the service. We continue to alternate year groups so that each class from year 2 upwards is last once every two weeks.

Pupil & Parent Voice:

Last week, pupils from year two upwards all took part in our termly pupil voice activity—using our feedback frames. We will share the findings soon. This week it is the turn of parents, the form for this term is split into two parts: the first is about the school and the second about Friends of Lyndhurst. As always, we really value your feedback. The parent link can be found here.

Save the Date- Yr 6 Fundraising:

We will be hosting a Yr. 6Bingo Fundraiser on Thursday 25th April, so please save the date.

PE Kit Reminders:

Apologies that some of the automated reminders that went out last week went out on the incorrect days, we will restart them this week with updated dates. Everyone will receive an automated reminder the day before their child has PE and a more personalised message if their child has forgotten their PE kit.

Uniform Donations:

Do you have old PE kits or school uniforms that you would be willing to donate to FOL? If so please bring them in as we plan to have a YR 6 fundraiser by selling discounted uniform items. We are particularly interested in clothing for pupils in Yr. 3 upwards.

Bike Market:

The last bike market was a brilliant success and generate £191 in revenue for the school. A huge thank you to everyone who donated a bike that was repaired and then re-sold.

Neurodiversity Week:

This week we mark Neurodiversity Week, a parent shared a fantastic resource full of useful workshops taking place this week- you can see the timetable here.

Turn on the Subtitles:

Did you know that turning on the subtitles on your TV at home is the easiest way to get your child reading? Doing this can double the chance of your child becoming a good reader. Yes, it’s really that simple. Please click here to see Hollywood legend Jack Black explain how you can turn screen time into reading time in 10 seconds.

Swimathon:

Two Lyndhurst pupils are taking part in the Marie Curie Cancer Research Swim-a-thon on the 19th, 26th of Marchand the 16th and 23rd of April. If you would like to sponsor them for this excellent cause, you can find their just giving page here.

Free Easter Wildlife Family Course:

The London Wildlife Trust have a free to access course on birds and minibeasts during the Easter break, you can find the dull details here.
