The Scoop 21st February 2023

Hello Lyndhurst Family,

Welcome back, I hope that everyone had a wonderful half term break regardless of how you spent it. I’m sure many of you were all to aware of the contrast between our half term and the experience of those impacted by the recent Kahramanmaras earthquake. We know that many members of our community will have friends and family in Turkey and Syria, our thoughts are with them.

Here are this week’s notices:

Individual Photogrpahs:
On Wed 22nd and Thur 23rd of Feb pupils will have their individual photographs taken, details about purchasing pictures will be sent separately.

Year Six Book Sale:
Year Six are holding a book sale to raise money for their school residential trip. The sale will take place in the playground after school on Wed 1st & Fri 3rd March. The team are also planning a pancake fundraiser—details to come.

Industrial Action:
We will be sending a letter tomorrow confirming the schools plans for the industrial action taking place next Thursday (2nd March) at this point we anticipate that the situation will be the same as it was earlier this month but we will confirm that by Wednesday evening.

World Book Day:
We are currently celebrating Book Week by looking at Pete Oswald’s ‘Hike’ but next week we will mark World Book Day by allowing pupils to dress up as a character from their favourite book. Due to the industrial action this will take place on Friday 3rd March.

Working Weekend:
We have many plans afoot for both the garden at the front of the school and the memorial garden at the back of the school. We will have our first working weekend on March 11th and 12th. We are looking for anyone who can help dig holes, trim shrubs, lay deck foundations, varnish woodwork and generally help with some manual labour! We would love any helpers who are available, it would be great to have an idea of numbers so please email the office to let them know if you can make one or both days. We also would like to borrow, working gloves, shovels and secateurs (long handled and short). We will not have child care available so any children will need to be under your supervision (we will be using chemicals and equipment that may not be child friendly).  Thanks in advance!

Parent Consultation (Parents Evening):
Details for our upcoming parents’ consultations sessions will be sent out soon. You will be able to book a slot with your child’s class teacher. In addition, year five parents will be able to book a session to talk with a member of the core leadership team to discuss secondary school options ahead of next year.

Website:
Our long-awaited new website is almost complete, it’s in the final stages of construction and will be being road tested over the next few weeks. We hope to launch it very soon.

Below are the key dates for this term:

  • World Book Day is the 2nd March.
  • Comic Relief is the 17th March
  • Parents Consultations are on the 22nd and 23rd March (exact times tbc).
