The Scoop Week 10th May 2023

Hello Lyndhurst Family,

Firstly, sorry for the late Scoop. Our year six pupils have been sitting their SATs papers this week which for those of you who don’t know is a big process. The pupils have 3 maths papers, 2 grammar papers and a reading paper spread over four days. All tests are taken under exam conditions and the papers are then collated and returned to The Department for Education to be marked. We know that the process is exhausting and stressful for our pupils so we do all we can to make it easier—from having groups in smaller rooms to providing a breakfast before school to prepare pupils for the day ahead. Year two have their SATs period coming up—this is a slightly less formal experience.

On top of that, this week our nursery pupils moved into their new classroom. They now have not only new furniture for their inside and outside areas but better access to outside space.

Here are this week’s notices:

Playground Equipment:

You will have noticed (and hopefully heard from your children) that we have, with the help of FOL and some funding we were successful with, invested in our playground equipment. The focus has been making clear zones with different activities that the pupils have told us that they enjoy. We have also purchased Loose Parts play equipment which has been very popular and we plan to use the money raised at our Eid celebration to purchase some more. We have explained to all pupils that we need to start looking after our equipment and are raising our expectations of how we care for our equipment. Any pupil misusing equipment will need to complete a reflection sheet with a member of the senior leadership team—a copy of this will be sent home to families and a copy will be kept in school. We hope that we can make this investment in our playground last for many more years.

Lyndhurst Bazaar:

A reminder that Lyndhurst have their first Bazaar taking place on May 20th. You can find a poster here.
Proceeds from the table sales and the entry fee will go straight to Friends of Lyndhurst, and you'll also have the opportunity to take home or donate as much of your takings as you want.
This is the perfect opportunity to sell your pre-loved books, toys, clothes, brik-a-brac and raise money for the school. Why not get together with your year group and have a class table, like year 6 are doing. Here’s the link to book a table - https://friendsoflyndhurstbazaar.square.site
In the top hall there will be an exhibition of the fantastic work made by Lyndhurst pupils who attended the Drawing Lab clubs from previous terms, as well as drawing activities for all to take part in.

International Evening:

We are planning on hosting our annual International Evening on Friday, 9th May 2023. If you would like to contribute to organising the logistics of this event please contact Ms Sawh on jsawh@lyndhurst.southwark.sch.uk

Staffing:

Lastly, there are a few staff announcements to make. We are thrilled to announce that Mrs Walker is expecting a second child in September. I know that like us you will all be delighted about this news. We have already recruited an excellent teacher to cover her whilst she is away—more on that after half term.  It is with regret (and excitement) that we also announce that Ms Baldwin is also stepping back from her role to focus more on her studies—we will still see her around school as she will be using Lyndhurst for some of her research. We wish her all the best with her future studies as she enters the final stage of her course.
