Dear Families,
The spring term always goes so quickly, I cannot quite believe that we are now half way through the academic year! When we return from the half term break we will hopefully start to see the sunlight again and we can start to look ahead to all of the exciting events that come in the second half of the year, sporting events, concerts, the year six production and the art exhibition and proms. The mid-year marker seems like a good point to thank everyone within our community who has helped to shape Lyndhurst into the remarkable community it is: whether you have volunteered, donated, given feedback, reinforced our expectations, attended events or spread the word about our school, thank you.
Whilst Southwark is still fighting against declining numbers on roll, we are seeing an upward trend and have increased our school size even expanding our nursery provision. This all helps us remain financial able to provide the brilliant offer we do. Not many schools can still offer: half a year of swimming (yr3-6), weekly specialist singing sessions, weekly specialist music sessions, weekly specialist PE sessions and a full term of specialist dance tuition. We do still have some spaces particularly in the upper years, so if you know of anyone looking for a move please ask them to contact us to book a tour.
Here are this week’s notices:
Half Term Holiday Camp:
A reminder that our holiday camp is taking bookings for the February half term, this camp has fantastic reviews and all profits from it go directly to the school so it’s child care and fundraising! You can book a place using this link.
Fancy Running a Club:
Do you fancy running a before or after school club, it could be a focussed on a craft, sport or something else entirely (film, languages or an activity). We are looking for some additional club providers or volunteers. There are a number of ways you can get involved from volunteering to acting as a sole trader. If you are interested and want to find out more please contact Mr Peddle hpeddle@lyndhurst.southwark.sch.uk(we plan to confirm our club offer in the second week of the new half term).
Mental Health Week:
The Theme for Children’s Mental Health Week this year is, My Voice Matters.
On Monday the children will explore the Lyndhurst Value of being an advocate and the importance of advocating for themselves and each other when it comes to their mental health and wellbeing.
On Tuesday for Safer Internet day, during their computing lesson pupils will take part in activities and discussions which centre on how to stay safe online.
On Wednesday Ms Caldwell and Mrs Sawh will be running a Safer Internet and Wellbeing Workshop for Parents in the library at 9:05. It is a chance for us to come together as adults and talk about the challenges our children face navigating the world on and off line and how we can promote better mental health by the actions we take as adults.
The children will also experience No Pens Wednesday to promote oracy and practical learning to support their wellbeing.
On Thursday their Phase assembly will allow them to talk about how they have been advocates and raised their voices for each other and finally on Friday we finish the week with an exploration and visit from the author Jo Brassington who wrote the Bottled Book. Jo will leads workshops and create honest, open spaces to enable our children to talk about their feelings and emotions so they don’t bottle them up.
School Streets Road Closure:
Some of you may remember that before Christmas Southwark rana consultation to make Grove Lane a School Street with closures around drop off and pick up times. Last week some of the signs went up but were incorrectly not covered up. I’ve been in contact with Southwark who confirm that the scheme is not yet live and they will be providing communication to residents and the school community in the coming weeks.
Bike Market:
On March 8th we will see a return of the very popular Bike Market we hosted in the autumn term. You can donate bikes in the morning which will be repaired and then made available for purchase afterschool at discounted rates. All sales generate proceeds that go to the school.
Access to the Playground- at Drop-off:
We know that the mornings can be pretty stressful on the best of days, with battles over toast, socks and leaving the house on time. Whilst much of that we cannot change we can be more mindful of blocking the laneway and gate by the entrance to the playground. Please can we ask that you do not congregate by the portcullis gate at the end of the laneway or in front of the reception gate as it can make it very stressful for families trying to get in and out of school quickly to complete their morning drop-offs.
FOL Meeting Minutes:
You can find the minutes of the last FOL meeting here. A giant thank you goes out to everyone involved in all of the fundraising efforts during the first half of this academic year.
Charter Parenting Masterclass Recording:
'Self-regulation skill-building for parents – equipping and empowering our children to access calm in anxious times. '
The webinars have been hugely successful with parents and are completely free! This was a topic much requested by parents in previous sessions. You can watch a recording here. Passcode: z$84CbNz
Wildlife Trust Half Term Activities:
The Wildlife Trust are running a range of holiday activities, see this flyer for more details.
Cricket Trials:
Cricket Trials for ACE will be taking place on the 21stFeb. You can see more details on this flyer.
