Hello Lyndhurst Family,
For many January can be an anti-climax after the winter break and the excitement that comes with that but I have been so impressed with the energy around school. Pupils have been on trips, had sporting fixtures, taken part in workshops and been learning outside. The school really is a buzz with activity. You can see lots of what is going on by following our social media pages X (formally twitter) and Instagram.
Here are this week’s announcements:
My Child at School Updates:
A reminder to log in to your child’s My Child at School account to:
-update dietary information
-update medical information
-update contact information
-give your photo consents and agree the home school agreement
We really do thank you for your help in doing this.
Olive Dining Town-hall Meeting Feedback:
A huge thank you to those who came to last week’s town-hall event. Whilst numbers were low we were able to have a productive conversation with the catering providers, Olive Dining. We agreed the following:
- Pupils in years 2-6 will be able to ask for a larger portion whilst at the servery (we will ask all teachers to communicate this with pupils).
- The kitchen will look to alter this terms menu, currently on the website, to add in more meat-free days.
- Parents of pupils with dietary needs, beyond being vegetarian or others requirements already on the menu, can request an annotated copy of the three-week menu with the options their child will be given.
- The nutrition team will explore adding in more inclusive options for pudding e.g. cakes that are vegan.
- The catering company will work with the kitchen team to ensure that food is warmer at the time of serving.
Year Four Parents Multiplication Check Meeting:
On Monday, 5th Feb @ 3:45pm in Rio Grande Classroom we will host a parent session to discuss the statutory Yr.4 Multiplication Tables Check that will take place later this year. We will explain what the check includes, how we will prepare pupils for it and how you can support your child at home. A brief recorded version of the presentation will be put online in the following week.
School History Archive:
Are you interested in history or archiving? We have a collection of objects, documents and things from the past that we would like to start exploring. We’re not sure what this project looks like but are looking for a small group of volunteers who might be interested in helping us decide what we have and how we should store, preserve and make it accessible. Get in touch if this interests you.
Autumn Term School Reports:
If you have a child in year one-six and did not receive, by email, your child’s end of term report, please contact your child’s teacher to ask for a copy. We understand that some families have not received them due to an error in the configuration of contact email addresses.
Stepping Into Stories- Herne Hill Festival:
The Herne Hill Stepping into Stories Festival is a brilliant event. Last year and this year classes from across the school benefited from sessions but there are also lots of family sessions. You can find the full details using this link.
School Disco:
The date of the school disco has been moved to the 23rd Feb- more details and a poster to come.
Sporting Update:
Our boys team started 2024 in fine style, with a hard fought 4-2 win against Dunraven. Coach Jim was particularly pleased with them this week as only 10 were available so they had to work extra hard and support each other. It was a really competitive match - quite nerve racking to watch - 2-2 with only a few minutes to go! They managed to keep their focus and push on for the win, thanks to some great leadership on the pitch. There were many brilliant performances, particularly defensively - Eliot volunteering to go in goal for the first time and pulling off a number of excellent saves - many finishing the match coated in mud from so many last-ditch tackles. But Kymanni took the player of the match award for contributing so much at both ends and racking up his second hat trick of the season! It’s also worth noting the spectacular support from spectators which is greatly appreciated.
That’s it from us, have a great week.
